Gliding through the sky, the heroine known as Lady Liberty arched high over the city below. Megapolis stretched into the horizon in three directions as the ocean lapped on its shores from the fourth. Sunlight reflected off the water as its early morning beams gave warmth to the cold aloofness of the hard city. As she flew overhead, she could see the roller coaster rolling empty on Wookie Island as the attractions were tested in preparation for the busy summer Saturday ahead. She smiled at the thought of such innocent entertainments, then smiled brighter as she rolled through the air, revelling in the feeling of the wind rushing through her hair and the weightlessness of her body.

Off to the south she floated, wafting over the Naval Yards below, modestly waving back as the navy men waved up at her. She flew over the aircraft carrier in the docks below, as the sounds of welding and hammering easily reached her hypersensitive ears. Above all the noise of construction in the docks, she could occasionally even catch snippets of conversation. She had learned how rude it was to listen in to such thing, so she always shut such things out of her mind. As she trailed farther south along the coastline, her mind wandered...

Her given name was Tania, born amongst her sister Amazons, daughter of Maria, mother of Julia. She had already been given the gift of a child some sixty year ago. She had come to this world like her other sisters in search of a mate. Tania had stayed longer than she was supposed to, but she could not leave during such a terrible war as was occurring then. She helped as well as she could, but at the end of the war she had found her a mate, and returned to her island home bearing the seeds that would grow into the baby daughter she would give birth to months later.

When the Queen had decided upon sending a champion into the outer world to help defend justice and to promote the peace through strength her people believed in, Tania had leaped at the chance to compete. She strained and struggled, but had finished in twelfth place out of the eighty that had competed. The Queen’s daughter, Deanna, who Tania knew to be the best of her people, had won. She was given the gifts of the champion, and sent out in her uniform to the outside world that Tania earned to see again.

It had been only a few weeks later that word reached the sisters on the island that Deanna was dead. She had been raped and killed within days of reaching the outer world; her innocence had been her downfall.

The Queen immediately held a new competition, one more subdued than the cheerful competition of before. Unlike the previous contest that considered each Amazon’s complete personality, this one was centered on fighting skills and the hardness of the warrior. Tania was not one of the greater warriors, she had the skills of a scout, but not that of a great warrior. Her Amazon sister Melania had won this competition narrowly, and was then given the title of champion and sent into the outer world.

Melania had been very successful. Tania never wanted anything to happen to Melania, but she was secretly jealous of the redheaded Amazon, which gave her much shame. Melania served as Ultra Woman in the outside world for two years, in that time avenging the loss of Deanna, but having many ugly encounters of her own that resulted in many trials of character for the stubborn, at times harsh, Melania.

Then the day came that word reached the Amazons that Melania had fallen. She had not been killed like Deanna, but her mind had been erased and she had been made a servant of a monstrous man of that world. Regardless, the woman that had been Melania was no more.

The Queen had been satisfied that she had found the right combination, and therefore logically chose, as the next champion, a sister named Atalanta. Atalanta had come in second, only narrowly, in the previous competition. She was given the mantle of Ultra Woman and sent out.

A mere month later Atalanta was dead. She had been undiplomatic and harsh to the men of the outside world, and few had lifted a hand to save her. Those that had she spurned, leading herself to her own demise.

A third contest was held, one that would combine all the qualities the Queen thought necessary. It would include a knowledge of the outer world, the abilities of a lone warrior, and the demeanor of an Amazon diplomatic, pleasant, yet made of stern stuff where it counted.

Tania did not go into this competition with high hopes, since those hopes had already been dashed twice previously. The contest included lone combat, courses designed to test the mettle of the Amazon through trickery, traps, and sudden attacks, and a session with the Queen herself which was designed to test the true heart of the Amazon.

Tania had been stunned, when, before all her sisters, she was proclaimed winner and the next champion of the Amazons. It was the proudest moment of her life as her daughter and mother stood on either side of her while the Queen gave her the gifts and mantle of the champion. The uniform was pleasantly tight, and the rope that rested on her hips tingled with the magic within it.

As Ultra Woman, Tania had done much as the champion. She had learned much about the ways of the outside world, and learned much of the people that inhabited it. Megapolis was a magnificent city, full of both good and evil. Her adventures had been of all kinds, and many things had happened to her, both good and evil. Her weakness had been taken used against her many times, and many villains had done many things to her but Tania had never let any of those things stop her. She had met many other heroines like herself, and even a couple heroes.

Then it was her turn to fall. Using a friend named Amber against her, Tania had been defeated by a woman calling herself the Silver Sorceress. Using the magic inherent in every Amazon, the Curse of the Amazons that inhabited their bodies, and Amber, the Sorceress had destroyed Tania’s mind. She had been made a mindless slave, and another champion had fallen.

Another champion was chosen, but to Tania the world was black. Occasionally the fog would slightly part in her head to reveal her body being abused by men and women, but the dark mists would enshroud her again, and the blackness would swallow her soul.

Tania had no idea at the time how long she was only a mindless sexual toy and automaton. All she knew was darkness.

It had seemed like an eternity in purgatory, trapped in a black limbo that would have driven most insane, but Tania persevered in the magical blackness that held her soul. Then it parted. She remembered looking down as one of her Amazon sisters pleasured her. The oriental girl between her most sensitive of parts was treating her as her sisters had treated her so many times on the island. The love and passion cracked the cage that held Tania’s soul, and she recognized her sister, Rei.

She was snatched away from Rei a moment later. The darkness quickly enveloped her again, but she had been given hope. There was a way out of her soul cage.

The rest the world knew. Using the magic of a sorceress-heroine, and the sacrifice of another heroine called Skygirl, Tania had been restored. Her soul was intact again. Although some of her Amazon abilities were gone, ripped from her during her long slavery, she had gained some of the powers from Skygirl. She could now fly, and her skin was invulnerable to most things. Bullets simply bounced off her skin, and heat and cold were just temperatures to her. Her senses had also been increased. She could hear things no one else could hear, she could see things miles away and see in the infrared spectrum. She was still experimenting with her other new abilities, like her sense of smell and taste. Tania could even feel the faintest cracks or dents in a surface.

She had always admired Captain Liberty, and he had helped her recover. Rei had been willing to surrender the mantle of Ultra Woman, but Tania could never take it from Rei; she owed everything to Rei and Skygirl. She decided to take on the name of Lady Liberty, in honor of the only man she had ever, secretly, lusted after.

Tania shook her head as a devious smile creased her face. That night she, Rei, and Brian had...

Tania spiralled upwards higher in the sky as a tingle shot through her body and seemed to circle around her womanhood in memory of that night. Guiltily she grinned at the thought. She had been very weak the next morning, but it had been so very worth it. If Brian would only...

Suddenly, the sound of gunfire broke through her daydreaming.
